Review: Friday the 13th V: A New Beginning

I feel like this sequel gets labeled the bottom of the barrel, bested perhaps only by Jason takes Manhattan, as the worst F13 sequel. I've always found it kind of charming for all of its flaws - the terrible acting, terrible dialogue, ridiculous 80's outfits...these are the reasons I watch Friday the 13th movies! I had to change the IMDB synopsis, as it gives away the "twist" ending in it's one sentence summary, so I'll caution against reading too much lest the ending be spoiled. I would probably caution against reading too much up on this movie anyway, as there are probably much more important things to be reading in general.

Here's some fun facts!

  • Not counting the laughing or yelling, the Tommy Jarvis character only says 24 words throughout the whole movie.

  • One month prior to the film's release in the U.S., the Motion Picture Association of America demanded that 16 scenes featuring sex or graphic violence be edited in order to merit an "R" rating instead of an "X" rating. The film ultimately required nine trips to the MPAA before being granted an "R" rating.

  • To keep the storyline a secret, the film was originally called "Repetition", after the David Bowie song of the same name. Several of the other Friday the 13th films have used Bowie songs as fake titles.
